Morocco Has Its Place Among the BRICS
China, India, Russia, Brazil, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia make up the BRICS. As you can see, aside from the UAE and Saudi Arabia, the other eight countries share a high population density and enormous agricultural potential.
Let us recall that Russia is one of the world’s largest grain producers. China ranks as the world’s top agricultural producer by production value, and India is second in the same category. Brazil is a major player in food production. In Africa, Ethiopia is a key agricultural hub. Egypt is also an agricultural country, as is Iran.
The growth of the world’s population presents a major challenge to food security. To tackle this issue, agricultural activities must achieve high productivity, which depends primarily on ensuring a sustainable supply of fertilizer products.
Morocco, with the world’s largest phosphate reserves—and therefore the largest source of fertilizers—has become an essential player in the global supply chain. It is also worth noting that phosphate is a key component in the electric battery industry, in which China is the leading player.
If Morocco were to apply for BRICS membership, it would be accepted by an overwhelming majority.
