{"id":17177,"date":"2025-09-14T17:29:32","date_gmt":"2025-09-14T17:29:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/asdhr.org\/?p=17177"},"modified":"2025-09-27T13:22:19","modified_gmt":"2025-09-27T13:22:19","slug":"geneva-peacetalks-2025-voices-of-hope-at-the-palais-des-nations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asdhr.org\/?p=17177","title":{"rendered":"Geneva PeaceTalks 2025: Voices of Hope at the Palais des Nations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">English (UK)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Geneva PeaceTalks 2025: Voices of Hope at the Palais des Nations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On <strong>10 September 2025<\/strong>, Room XVII of the Palais des Nations hosted the <strong>13th edition of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peacetalks.net\/\" title=\"\">Geneva PeaceTalks<\/a><\/strong>, under the theme <em>\u201cPeace is Possible.\u201d<\/em> The event ran from 15:00 to 17:00 CEST, both in person and via livestream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Organised in partnership with the <a>United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG)<\/a>, <a>Interpeace<\/a>, and the <a>Geneva Peacebuilding Platform<\/a>, the event brought together diplomats, activists, artists, and grassroots leaders to share their visions of peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Highlights &amp; voices from the day<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The line-up of speakers reflected global diversity and perspectives:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a>Lolwah bint Rashid bin Mohammed Al Khater<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 Minister of Education and Higher Education, Qatar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a>Jagan Chapagain<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 Secretary General &amp; CEO, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a>Caroline Vuillemin<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 Director-General, Fondation Hirondelle<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a>Hind Aboud Kabawat<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 Syrian transitional government minister &amp; Interpeace Board member<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Frank Kayitare<\/strong> \u2013 Rwanda Country Representative, Interpeace<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Julien Th\u00f6ni<\/strong> \u2013 <a>Permanent Representative of Switzerland<\/a> to the UN in Geneva (Disarmament)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a>Guila Clara Kessous<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 UNESCO Artist for Peace<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Elizabeth Laskar &amp; Miranda Shaw<\/strong> \u2013 <a>Creators of Peace International<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Music was performed by <strong>Dr Bo\u017cena Schmid-Adamczyk<\/strong> (pianist) and <strong>Adrien Philipp<\/strong> (clarinetist).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A few quotations and reflections captured during the event:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cWhat does it take to choose hope over fear?\u201d<\/em> \u2014 opening reflection that framed the dialogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several speakers stressed that peace requires <strong>rebuilding trust in fractured communities<\/strong> and ensuring that <strong>peace must be tangible, not just rhetorical.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The closing remarks were delivered by <strong><a>Itonde Kakoma<\/a><\/strong>, President &amp; CEO of Interpeace.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reflections &amp; implications for ASDH<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For our team at ASDH, following the Geneva PeaceTalks reinforced the <strong>power of storytelling<\/strong> in international advocacy. High-level diplomacy often centres on treaties and declarations, but it is human stories \u2014 of loss, resilience, and hope \u2014 that carry urgency and meaning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three lessons stand out:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Bridge local and global<\/strong>: Community voices must be placed at the centre of multilateral processes, not treated as symbolic additions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sustain momentum<\/strong>: PeaceTalks cannot end when the session closes \u2014 advocacy and follow-up are essential.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Value diversity<\/strong>: Including artists, youth, women, and grassroots actors alongside diplomats deepens the conversation.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2025 edition reminded us that <strong>peace is not abstract \u2014 it is possible, tangible, and urgent.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Version fran\u00e7aise<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Geneva PeaceTalks 2025 : des voix d\u2019espoir au Palais des Nations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le <strong>10 septembre 2025<\/strong>, la Salle XVII du Palais des Nations a accueilli la 13\u1d49 \u00e9dition des <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.peacetalks.net\" title=\"\">Geneva PeaceTalks<\/a><\/strong>, sous le th\u00e8me <em>\u00ab La paix est possible \u00bb<\/em>.
